about can
The relationship between healthy families and job stability in single parent households is crucial; periodic breaks in employment threaten future employability. Through LIFE, working parents seek to reverse the “job-hopping” cycle, to develop new skill sets and to develop the perseverance required to attain their goals.
A Better Future Through "Soft Skills"
Project Self-Sufficiency (PSS)
Job counseling in the PSS program comes in the form of helping clients to recognize strong and weak areas in their "skill sets"; to identify possible avenues of specialization, skill enhancement, and immediate as well as long range employment tracks. The guiding philosophy behind this program is that each participant is responsible for his or her self-sufficiency. Our employment counselors present clients with positive first steps.
The LIFE program's approach is to adapt to the needs of single working parents as they endeavor to become more independent and lead more rewarding lives.
Each one of the three annual sessions is tailored to meet participants training and informational needs. In addition to financial support and encouragement, single working parents (45 annually), learn new skills, develop better problem-solving strategies, form a single parent’s support group, and build confidence through class presentations and discussions.
